The Committee was established in 2000 to provide IFM with independent opinions, discussions and reports of important developments about nutrition of infants and young children.
The Committee also reviews scientific literature for inclusion in the IFM website and for development of "occasional papers" on high priority, scientific issues that are disseminated by IFM to anyone involved in promoting the nutritional health of children.
Currently, the Committee is comprised of five members:
Christophe Dupont Professor of Paediatrics, University René Descartes Paris V, Head of Neonatology and Nutrition Department, Hospital Cochin Saint Vincent de Paul, Paris Professor Dupont’s research activities and publications concern digestive hormones, paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, food allergy, helicobacter pylori infection, gastroesophageal reflux, noninvasive testing of gastroesophageal function, and neonatal nutrition. He is a member of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and the Committee of Nutrition of the French Paediatric Society.
William C. Heird Professor of Pediatrics,Children's Nutrition Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Dr. Heird received paediatric training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, and Babies Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York and was previously a member of the faculty, Department of Pediatrics, Columbia University College of Physicians. Dr. Heird’s research activities and publications relate primarily to total parenteral nutrition, nutrition of low birth weight (LBW) infants, and essential fatty acid metabolism. In 1996, he received the Nutrition Award of The American Academy of Pediatrics.
Vinodini Reddy Visiting Professor, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore and Formerly, Director of National Institute of Nutrition, India Professor Reddy’s research and publications are focused on infant and child nutrition, protein energy malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. She received the Dr.B.C. Roy national award, Kamala Menon Medical Research award and Freisland International Prize. She has also served as a member of several expert committees of WHO and FAO and is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the International Vitamin A Consultative Group. Professor Reddy is also Vice-President of the International Union of Nutrition Sciences.
Brian Wharton (Chairman) Honorary Professor of University College at the MRC Childhood Nutrition Research Centre, Institute of Child Health, London Dr. Wharton’s previous posts include Rank Professor of Human Nutrition, Glasgow, Director of the British Nutrition Foundation, and paediatrician at Medical Research Council Nutrition Unit, Uganda. His research and publications have mainly been in the area of pregnancy, newborns and toddlers. Over the years, he has been a member of many UK and European committees advising on child nutrition.
